Background

The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s chief scientific in-house research agency. Our job is finding solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans every day from field to table. Here are a few numbers to illustrate the scope of our organization:

  • 660 research projects within 15 National Programs
  • 2,000 scientists and post docs
  • 6,000 other employees
  • 90+ research locations, including overseas laboratories
  • $1.4 billion fiscal year budget

Requirements

  • The contractor shall:
    • Install Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems on each of the four USDA Beltsville, MD campuses and sites. These are: BARC East, West, South Farm and the National Agriculture Library (NAL). Array sites and types include standard ground array areas, parking lots for shaded carports and agricultural laydown yards that can accommodate a utilitarian kind of shade structure that BARC managers refer to as “Solar Shaded Port Aggregation Protocols” (Agports).
