Booth Gates And Parking Observatory DC Requirements

The Booths, Gates, and Secure Parking project objectives require replacement and relocation of several deficient booths with new custom-built or prefabricated structures. The entry control facilities (ECF) also require replacement due to outdated structures that must be brought up to current criteria and improved operational standards. The ECFs also require updated K-9 screening areas while optimizing layouts for pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Replacement of motorized gates and vehicle barriers are also required to meet current criteria for improved system performance. Phased construction is necessary to maintain daily operations within the campus at the USNO with performance of work allowed during specified timeframes Monday – Friday. Government escort is also necessary throughout the duration of construction for each facility.

  • Building a is a 56 SF prefabricated officer booth. Ballistic Rated fiberglass panels shall be installed in all walls, roofs, and soffits. Prefabricated exterior wall panels fabricated and assembled offsite and delivered to the site as a complete unit. Prefabricated roof system-Standing Seam metal roofing on self-adhered underlayment, minimum R-30 polyisocyanurate continuous insulation (for conditioned interior spaces) over metal roof deck on sloped steel roof structure. Roof shall slope to exposed metal gutter and downspouts at the perimeter of the building. Dark green standing seam metal roofing and wall panels/doors will enhance the ability to blend into the surrounding environment.
  • Demolition includes the existing booth and trees. Site improvements include clearing and grubbing as needed to provide line of site between Building a and Building b, Building b and Building d, and Building d and Building c.
  • Site improvements include the construction of a new booth and extension of paving stones to the booth. The new booth will be constructed behind the existing booth. Because construction is located within a wooded area on steep slopes, the conditions pose challenges to how materials are brought to the project sites. The existing trail will be required to be repaired if damaged during construction. The project does not include water, sanitary sewer, or natural gas services. Electrical and communication services will be provided.
