Mortar Tail Fin Requirements

  • The USG intends to procure up to approximately 2.7 million M24 Mortar Fins, 2.3 million M27 Mortar Fins, 133, 000 M28 Mortar Fins and 2.6 million M31 Mortar Fins, respectively
  • The M27, M24, M28 and M31 Mortar Fins are components of the 60mm, 81mm and 120mm Mortar Cartridge variants, High Energy (HE), Full Range Practice Cartridge (FRPC) and Illumination and Smoke items. These Mortar Fins will be delivered to various Load, Assemble and Pack (LAP) facilities. The 60mm, 81mm, and 120mm family of mortars are stabilized in flight by aluminum fins. The mortar fins hold the propelling charge increments and ignition cartridge responsible for initiation and firing. They must also create the appropriate spin and weight distribution for stabilization and repeatable firing distances
