Background

The National Park Service is an agency of the United States federal government within the U.S. Department of the Interior that manages all national parks, most national monuments, and other natural, historical, and recreational properties with various title designations.

Requirements

  • The Work includes seismic retrofitting of the Hospital Wing of the Cellhouse, including:
    • Replace existing concrete walls with reinforced concrete walls.
    • Add reinforced concrete shear wall overlays on existing walls.
    • New reinforced concrete footings with micropiles at concrete shear walls.
    • New horizontal and vertical cores with embedded reinforcing steel and repair mortar in exterior concrete walls.
    • Add fiber reinforced polymer reinforcing to existing exterior concrete walls and existing concrete slabs.
    • New concrete collector beams at floor and roof levels.
    • New reinforced concrete slab infills at floor and roof levels.
    • Repair select existing embedded steel beams.
    • Incidental removal and replacement of plaster, painted, and ceramic tile wall and ceiling finishes.
    • Hazardous materials remediation of lead-based paint and asbestos containing materials and miscellaneous repairs to historic finishes.
    • Incidental removal and replacement of concrete floor slab.
    • Incidental removal and replacement of roofing.
    • Incidental removal, re-installation and relocation of existing mechanical equipment, plumbing, electrical equipment and conduit.
    • Mobilization and transportation necessary to execute scope of work on Alcatraz Island.

    The Work also includes stabilization and structural repairs due to corrosion to the exterior of the historic Cellhouse, including:

    • Removal of delaminated concrete.
    • Exfoliating steel reinforcing.
    • Formed exterior patches to match the original color, texture, finish and configuration of the existing concrete.
    • Installation of galvanic anodes.
    • Pilaster strengthening
    • Repair of exterior of the perimeter concrete walls including parge repair.
    • Repair/rehabilitation/replacement of historic windows and selected historic doors.
    • Repair of selected portions of historic interior concrete walls including the frames.
    • Hazardous materials remediation of lead-based paint and asbestos containing materials and miscellaneous repairs to historic finishes.
    • Incidental removal and replacement of roofing.
    • Incidental removal, re-installation and relocation of existing mechanical equipment, plumbing, electrical equipment and conduit.
    • Mobilization and transportation necessary to execute scope of work on Alcatraz Island
