Background

The HUD Headquarters building, known as the Robert C. Weaver Building, is a historically recognized building on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is a General Services Administration (GSA) owned facility that is approximately 1,440,000 square feet and has 10 stories of mostly office area above ground in addition to a penthouse, basement, subbasement, and a three-level underground parking garage. In addition, the facility has a large multipurpose room/auditorium that is housed on the first floor. The HUD Child Daycare Center encompasses approximately an 8,000 square foot build out beneath the building overhang. The facility houses approximately 4,000 occupants between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. HUD performs its own reorganization of space under GSA Delegated Authority. Accordingly, HUD has responsibility for the design and tenant fit out of the headquarters building, involvement with GSA planned and funded capital improvement projects for that facility, and responsibility for low voltage electrical service in HUD leased space in satellite buildings.

Requirements

  • The nature of the work ranges from complete interior tenant fit-out construction projects to minor alterations. Project types include:
    • Architectural and Engineering design including the provision of egress studies, and provision of construction documents
    • Renovations of office areas with major revisions to floor layouts, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, and fire protection systems
    • Construction of conference rooms with videoconferencing capabilities and provision of videoconferencing equipment
    • Minor interior architectural finish replacements
    • Electrical and data/internet cabling, and telephone work related to occupant moves
    • Data and telephone cabling in leased spaces located within a mile radius from the Weaver Building
    • Testing of and hazardous materials abatement of asbestos containing products, lead paint, and airborne contaminants
