Background

The 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW) of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) includes four components: the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), the Airman Systems Directorate (711 HPW/RH), the Human Performance Integration Directorate (711 HPW/HP), and the Wing staff offices. USAFSAM provides Aerospace Medicine Training, Education, and Consultation to Enhance Warfighter Performance and Combat Casualty Care for World Wide Operations in garrison and war. It is the center for aeromedical education, training, and consultation in direct support of USAF, Department of Defense (DoD), and in operations. USAFSAM provides peacetime and contingency support in hyperbarics, human performance, clinical and environmental health, laboratory and risk analysis, expeditionary medical support, and aeromedical evacuation. The 711 HPW/RH studies developing technologies specific to the human element of warfighting capability.

The Directorate leads the AF in its human-centered research. 711 HPW/RH integrates biological and cognitive technologies to optimize and protect the Airman’s capabilities to Fly, Fight, and Win in Air, Space, and Cyberspace. The Directorate provides critical network connectivity enabling researchers, scientists, and evaluators access to internet resources and collaboration with universities. The 711 HPW/HP enables execution of Human Systems Integration within AF total integrated life cycle management. The Directorate optimizes warfighter capability through a human-centric approach to system development, sustainment, and enhancement. The Wing staff offices provide management and oversight of manpower, finance, programs, facilities, and planning elements for the wing mission elements.
