Requirements

  • The proposed project will consist of construction of a new 1,200 ft lock chamber founded on deep foundations to be constructed riverward of the existing 600 ft lock chamber, construction of a new upstream ported approach wall, construction of a downstream approach wall designed to block flow through the wall, construction of site development features to provide access routes, staging areas, disposal areas, operations facilities, and public access for both construction and operation of the lock. The existing Intermediate Wall will be extended approximately 600 ft while the new River Wall for the chamber will be approximately 1,200 ft. A lock floor will be constructed for the new chamber that will require dewatering and unwatering to construct the floor. Modification to the existing filling and emptying system and construction of a new filling and emptying system will be included in the construction of the new chamber. Partial demolition of existing monoliths on the Intermediate Wall and River Wall will be required to construct the new lock wall monoliths’
    connection to the existing walls. Demolition of the upstream guard wall will be part of the project. Dredging will be required to construct the new chamber.
