Background

  • The Missile Defense Agency established the Quality, Safety and Mission Assurance (QS) organization to perform a continuous assessment of the engineering, technology, processes, production, and programmatic practices used to develop and operate the MDS such that high risk attributes can be identified and addressed to increase confidence in achieving mission success while ensuring personnel safety. Mission assurance is the disciplined application of general system engineering, risk management, quality, and management principles to achieve mission success. A disciplined mission assurance process has independent technical assessment as a cornerstone throughout the entire planning, design, development, fabrication, test, deployment, and support processes.
  • The QS Directorate plans, executes, analyzes, and reports technical results for all MDA operations and MDS design, development, production, testing and operations. The QS Directorate functions as an independent, unfettered and unrestricted, non-advocate technical organization for the MDA with a specific focus on mission success and personnel safety. It provides executive guidance and policy direction on all Quality, Safety and Mission Assurance (QSMA) matters throughout the MDA and assures compliance with QSMA strategies, policies, agreements, and standard practices to advance capabilities and assures that effective and efficient functional management is in place to enhance the success of the agency. It also assesses compliance with applicable governing MDA guidance and reports results to MDA Leadership.
