Requirements

  • The project is to provide professional construction services for the replacement of the boilers and associated equipment within Building 101 located at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY.
  • This project will involve replacing the majority of the equipment and piping systems associated with the water tube steam boiler generation system.
  • The heating requirements of the James J. Peters Medical Center are met from the central hearing plant which houses three 40,000 lb/hr boilers that generate high pressure steam (130 psig) which is distributed throughout the medical Center.
  • Pressure reducing stations reduce the steam pressure to both medium and low pressure as required for the equipment being served.
  • Condensate is gravity returned to condensate receivers located in the service tunnel and pumped back to the main condensate tank located in the central plant.
  • The boilers were installed in 1977 and have been continually repaired upgraded over the years; new replacements are required to enhance the reliability of the system to provide support to the Medical Center.
  • All work shall be completed as specified on the plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • The contractor will be required to perform sub-surface mark-outs, utilizing GPR and other industry-recognized equipment and methodologies, towards a thorough identification and location of existing underground utilities affecting this project and its successful completion.
