Background

Established in 1902, the Bureau of Reclamation is best known for the dams, powerplants, and canals it constructed in the 17 western states. These water projects led to homesteading and promoted the economic development of the West. Reclamation has constructed more than 600 dams and reservoirs including Hoover Dam on the Colorado River and Grand Coulee on the Columbia River.

Requirements

Scope of work includes:

  • The contractor may be engaged to undertake various tasks related to icefall and rockfall hazard mitigation. Responsibilities will include providing all personnel, equipment, labor, supplies, and materials necessary to perform a range of activities, such as design, inspection, reporting, cleaning, scaling, and other required mitigation efforts.
  • The contractor may also be required to repair, replace, or construct permanent mitigation features, which may include icefall barrier systems, rockfall barrier systems, rock bolting, shotcrete or concrete installation, wire netting, cabling, and similar structures designed to protect personnel, government structures, and property from hazards. Additionally, the contractor may be required to conduct scaling or blasting of large rock at project sites.
  • Furthermore, the contractor will be responsible for debris removal and site cleanup upon project completion. Key activities the contractor shall provide include, but are not limited to, mobilization and preparatory work, site assessment followed by proposed design mitigation techniques, implementation of various icefall and rockfall mitigations, ensuring the safety of all personnel and sites during operations, controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic during work activities, and delivering all as-built drawings upon project completion.
