Requirements

  • The work includes construction of new duct bank and manholes from Magazine Street Substation to a new manhole above Shaft #1 and new cable tray and support within shaft 1 and the service tunnel to splice point between shaft #3 and #4. New feeders will to be installed in this route and existing feeder cables will be demolished and removed. This project replaces the existing unreliable feeders which have failed several times in the past. The project also, includes construction of new natural gas fueled back-up generator system along with removal of the existing back-up generators and associate diesel fuel storage distribution system. The new generator system includes a new 5,400 square foot load bearing CMU and brick veneer building to house the generators, switchgear, and control equipment. The new building will be adjacent to the Magazine Street Substation, in the Depot Lot at the corner of Magazine Street and Portage Avenue. This project provides reliable standby power to the Soo Lock Complex.
