Background

The USDA Headquarters (HQ) in Washington D.C. consists of two buildings – the Jamie L. Whitten Building and South Building. The Whitten Building was constructed in 1905 and the South Building was built between 1930 and 1936. The two buildings are connected by bridges that span Independence Avenue. Both buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
