Background

The United States Department of the Treasury’s (Treasury’s) mission is to maintain a strong economy and create economic and job opportunities by promoting the conditions that enable economic growth and stability at home and abroad, strengthen national security by combating threats and protecting the integrity of the financial system, and manage the U.S. Government’s finances and resources effectively. Within the Treasury, the Departmental Offices (DO) formulate policy for and provide support across the Department as a whole. Within DO, the Office of Management is responsible for the internal management and policy of the Department in the areas of budget, planning, human resources, information and technology management, financial management and accounting, procurement, privacy, and records.

The Office of the Chief information Officer (OCIO) is a component of the Office of Management. OCIO provides leadership to the Department and its Bureaus in all areas of information and technology management and has Department-wide responsibility for the direction and development of Treasury’s Information Technology (IT) strategy, management of IT investments, and leadership of key technology initiatives. OCIO’s workforce of highly qualified federal employees perform a wide variety of inherently government functions in support of this mission. OCIO also relies on contractor resources to provide subject matter expertise on emerging issues and technologies and to support day-to-day IT and financial management operations and related business processes.
