Keeping up with Government Contracting market is pretty difficult, especially with the new trends that are being implemented from time to time. Before deciding to enter this competitive environment, a contractor must develop a strategic plan, ensure a methodical approach and find innovative ways to grow their business after entering a specific federal market.

Federal contracts offer great possibilities to expand your business and benefit from lucrative growth opportunities. On the other hand, you’ll also have to be prepared and complying with many laws and regulations that come with “the package”. For a contract to be successful, both the contractor and the buying agency must follow a uniform policy. At the end of the day, whichever party fails, it’ll be a common failure.

Regardless your business status or size, finding the right opportunity to pursue is very important. Having a realistic approach when estimating whether your business is competent and has the capabilities to perform the contract – will help you make the right bid/no decision.  This is why you need a good capture manager and a proposal management team to guide you through the complex government proposal process. How will your business benefit from Color Team Reviews?

Proposal management process involves many practices before submitting the final draft. Key to a successful RFP response is to follow the advice “Review, review, review!”.

Proposal reviews are essential for managing complex request for proposal responses and developing a winning project. Review teams must be proficient, well-organized, and ready to help the writing team improve the quality of the documents. To receive the highest evaluation marks many companies have created Color Team Reviews to audit the proposal on different stages. The color of the teams varies depending on their role.

The most common color team reviews are:

Pink Team – is responsible for the technical and management approaches, and make sure that they’re in compliance with the RFP solicitation requirements. It must make sure that the proposal adequately presents the company’s final offer and is appropriately addressing the evaluation criteria.

Red Team – is the most critical content review responsible to determine if the proposed offer is complete and consistent with the solicitation statement of work; and whether it effectively communicates the capabilities for offering the best solution.

Gold Team – checks the Red Team’s edits and determines if the proposal is ready for final production. It focuses on identifying discriminators and inserting high-level win themes to ensure that your proposal is positioned to win.

White Glove – is the “error-checker” team. They conduct a visual page-per-page review to ensure that your proposal is flawless in design, layouts, printing, and free from other document imperfections.

Nevertheless, there are companies that have additional proposal reviews with different names to distinguish them, such as Black Hat, Blue Team, and Green Team. Each team is designed for specific purposes and if done correctly the results of the reviews will help your business track your progress, identify your strengths and help you improve your capability gaps.

An effective review can turn a weak proposal into a winning one.
